Fazl says LFO a biggest hurdle in functioning of NA

PESHAWAR: Maulana Fazlur Rehman -- the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal’s prime ministerial candidate -- has termed the Legal Framework Order (LFO) a “biggest hurdle” in the functioning of the National Assembly.

“In this regard, the MMA recently called an all parties conference to seek consensus on this issue,” he said while talking to reporters here.

Four major parties during the APC named Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain as their representative for talks with the president on the LFO, which if rendered unresolved could caused deadlock in future.

Fazl said that Chaudhry Shujaat has not yet apprised the APC of the government response on the subject. The MMA, he said, was in contact with other political parties for the formation of the government at the center.

“However, it is clear now that whatever government takes place in the center, it would be headed by the MMA,” Fazl said, and added the LFO has been a topic of discussion with other political parties.

Regarding the country’s foreign policy, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said: “We want a balanced foreign policy to ensure the country’s sovereignty and integrity.”

“Similarly, we want an economic policy where dependence is on our own natural resources, instead of foreign loans,” he continued. The Maulana said his would be an investment policy based on consultations with the business community.

The MMA leader with regard to legislations said the laws would be devised in line with the recommendations of the Islamic Ideology Council and of the legislative body.

Fielding a query on the ARD, he said that, “we are waiting for their response, and we hope it would be in our favor.” The MMA stalwart expressed his optimism on his group’s government at the center.

Asked whether there were any dissensions within the MMA, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that all such “utterance” were deliberately made by a specific lobby, which were doomed.

The Maulana to a question said that real mandate was extended to the MMA, as both PPP and PML-Q were old parties and have secured lots of old votes. “But the MMA is the only political force that has emerged fresh and as people’s reaction to the Musharraf govt’s policies.
