ISLAMABAD: The parliamentary leader of Mutahida Majlas-e-Aamal Pakistan (MMAP), Qazi Hussein Ahmed Saturday vowed that the six religious parties alliance will take oath as Member of the National Assembly under 1973 Constitution of the country and not under Legal Framework Order 2002.
He was talking to reporters after holding meeting with Pakistan Muslim League (Q) delegation lead by Ch. Shujat Hussein on the outcome of his meeting with the military government over the reservations of the political parties including MMAP and Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPP-P) on the constitutional amendments made by President General Pervez Musharraf.
“I have achieved almost 40 percent in my last meeting with the top officials of the sitting government over the reservations of the MMAP and other political parties over the Legal Framework Order 2002 and other related matters,” Ch Shujat told the reporters.
Qazi however appreciated the efforts of Ch. Shujat and said that he would be consulting to the MMAP leadership also with the allies including PPP-P, PML (Nawaz) and other parties of Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD).
“Under the constitution of the country there is no room for head of the state (President of Pakistan) who is in uniform,” Qazi said.
Qazi Hussain Ahmad said, “PML(Q) leader had brought a preliminary report on his efforts to bridge the gap between the view points of the government and others,” he said. He added that he would consult his other colleagues ARD and the National Alliance leaders in this context. He however, pointed out that their stand on the LFO is very clear that they do not recognize any one sided constitutional amendments including revival of article 58-2/B and the National Security Council.
When pressed to divulge the nature of Chaudhary Shujat's preliminary report, MMA Parliamentary leader refused to go into details. Asked if formation of government also came under discussion, Qazi Hussain Ahmed replied in the negative. He said the ARD has already assured them to support Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the MMA candidate for Prime Minister's slot.
He was sure that things would be automatically become smooth once the elected house met.
Expressing his views, Chaudhary Shujat Hussain emphasized the need to find a middle course on the legal framework order and said the restoration of democracy was not possible without adopting the middle path. He said that he had stressed this point during his discussion with the MMA leader and would also urge the government to find a way out of the impasse.
He however cautioned the political parties and alliances to follow the policy of moderation otherwise, he warned that restoration of democracy would become difficult. He accused that both PML(N) and PPP in the ARD were least interested in the restoration of democracy and pursuing their own agenda purely based on vested interests.
