Three Chinese engineers killed in Balochistan car bomb blast
KARACHI : At least three Chinese engineers were killed and eleven other people were injured in a car bomb attack in southwestern Balochistan province on Monday, a senior police officer and doctors said.
The engineers were working on a seaport project in Gawadar, about 500 kilometers west of Karachi, near the border with Iran.
The attack took place early morning as a coach was taking some 12 Chinese workers to the Gawadar port, said Sattar Lasi, the chief of police in Gawadar.
Dr Masood Baloch in Gawadar hospital confirmed death of three people. He said that four of the injured are in critical condition and have been shifted to Karachi.
Dr Baloch said that all the injured minus two are foreigners. But he did not say anything about the nationalities. He said a gunman and a driver , who were injured in the attack, are Pakistanis.
Lasi said a car was parked near the port and it exploded as the bus reached the port.
He said it was unclear if it was a suicide attack or the car was exploded by remote control.
The police have not yet found the remains of any bomber inside the car, he said.
