PPP denounces repeated and prolonged power breakdowns in Karachi

ISLAMABAD, May 20( ): Pakistan Peoples Party Tuesday condemned power breakdown in major areas of Karachi, a metropolis of Sindh and termed it failure of Karachi Electric Supply Corporation’s professional responsibilities.

PPP-Parliamentrains Senator from Sindh Enver Beg in a statement has termed that breakdown of powers for many hours on Sunday exposed disinterest of the KESC management to serve their basic responsibility of smooth supply of electricity to their consumers in a city of millions.

The collapse of the transmission and distribution system of the Karachi

Electric Supply Company resulting in prolonged power breakdowns in several localities in Karachi is a demonstration of the utter failure of the management of the Company and is deplored and condemned, he said.

“The agony caused to the people of Karachi calls for the sacking of all those whose inefficiency, corruption and lack of sense of responsibility contributed to the repeated and unscheduled power breakdowns without prior notice or warning to the citizens,” he said.

The power breakdown caused water shortage leading to near riot situations in a number of localities as the KESC officials slept over the plight and misery of the people.

When the KESC management was handed to its new management it was claimed that it had been necessitated to improve the efficiency, weed out corruption in the utility and to enhance the quality of service to the consumer, he said and added “Unfortunately in all these critical areas whether efficiency, eliminating corruption or service to the consumers KESC under new management that is in uniform, has done worse than when it was under its previous management.”

The new bosses of of the KESC refuse to listen to the complaints of the people and behave as though as they are accountable to none, he alleged.

This arrogant sense of being beyond the pale of any accountability lies at the root of the malaise of KESC and the miseries of the people of Karachi, he said.

“The PPP supports the demand of the affected citizens that the new management ru ng the power utility be brought to book for failing to discharge their duties,” he said.
