Kasuri says Pakistan and India will have to move towards dialogue

ISLAMABAD : Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri has said Pakistan and India will have to move forward towards composite dialogue process to resolve all outstanding issues including Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement issued in Islamabad on Monday, Mr Kasuri said both the countries will have to work on a solution of Kashmir issue which is acceptable to Pakistan, India and Kashmiris.

Taking serious note of the Indian Foreign Minister Mr. Natwar Singh's statement to speed up dialogue process setting aside Kashmir issue, Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri advised the Indian leaders “we should observe Rhetoric Restraint Regime to avoid misunderstanding and not conduct diplomacy through the media”.

“This restraint has worked well in the recent past and should continue to work after the transition of the government in India”.

The Foreign Minister said both the countries should make sincere efforts to resolve the Kashmir issue as the the status quo is part of the problem and not a solution. He said the resolution of the issue is must for peace and security in the region as unresolved status of Jammu and Kashmir dispute has already pushed the two countries to three wars.

He said both the sides will have to clearly understand that there shared objectives is durable peace in the region which cannot be achieved without the resolution of Kashmir issue according to the aspirations of the people of Kashmir. He said the international community also feels that durable peace in South Asia can only be achieve by accommodating the aspirations of the people of Kashmir.

On the proposal of Indian Foreign Minister to adopt Sino-India model of relations to promote Pak-India ties, Mr. Kasuri said it may be good but it does not have universal application. He said there is no parallel between Sino-India engagement and Pak-India paradigm with Kashmir, which is an international dispute.
