ISLAMABAD : The recent Pak-Russia agreement about manufacturing tanks will not disturb India as every country has the right to sell its arms in markets, but for Pakistan it is important to develop political relations with Moscow.
Afrasiab Khattak, known political analyst and former HRCP chairman, expressed these view while talking to BBC.
“I think that India will not mind this pact; every country is searching markets for its arms; the Russia has the right to sell arms; in my opinion India will not be angry over this pact,” Khattak said.
However he said it is also important to develop political relations with Russia as the neighboring country (India) has already relations with it.
He said that the Pakistan and Russia can help each in the economic field too.
The Russian officials say that the Russian biggest factory has entered into a pact with the Pakistan to make tanks jointly. The pact has taken place between the Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri and his Russian counterpart Sargai Larvov in Moscow.
Afrasiab Khattak said it is a fact that after the cold war, Pakistan has tried to maintain good relations with Russia and enhance military ties with it. He said that Pakistan should try to maintain balance in relations between Russia and India to create space for itself. He said it is the first deal between the two countries and it will not affect military ties as Pakistan have such pacts with China and the production of tanks already have started between China and Pakistan.
However he said it would have effect on the political relations.
“One thing, I think the Russia would have discussed with Khurshid Kasuri, is about militants busy in fight in the Russia states, Afrasiab said and added this issue remains a bit hurdle between the two countries relations.
But slowly and steadily, Pakistan is trying to develop relations with Russia that could be acceptable to the latter, he added.
