Khurshid raps govt. for inaction against employment promoters
ISLAMABAD : Senator Prof. Khurshid Ahmad has expressed his disgust on the failure of the government in taking effective steps to punish those 'employment promoters' who have been sending Pakistanis abroad on fake
documents.
In a statement, he expressed his displeasure that such elements are bringing miseries, including death and detention, to the people and disrepute and shame to the country.
Criticizing the performance of the interior ministry and its agencies, he said that the data submitted to the Senate by the Interior Minister shows that out of 458 employment promoters, against whom cases were registered from 1999 to 2003, only 50 have been convicted; while 89 cases are pending for investigation and 217 pending for trial.
He said, "Is it the 'good governance' of the Musharraf regime?" The government, he urged, should save the country from disgrace that is being brought to Pakistan through the activities of these so-called employment promoters.
While only a few of them have been nabbed, there are many powerful and favourite ones who are still at large though being involved in the smuggling of people abroad, he added. He hoped that government and parliament would take serious note of this despicable state of affairs to improve the situation.
