ISLAMABAD :The Government is taking a number of measures to promote and elevate the standard of Hockey in the country. To achieve the objective, a grant of Rs 20 million has already been announced by the Chief Executive, on the occasion of National Hockey Championship held at Lahore on 23rd January 2001, to Pakistan Hockey Federation.
Besides, he has also directed lying of Astroturf at Abbottabad, Sialkot, Peshawar, Quetta, Bahawalpur and Karachi for which another Rs 160 million have been approved. In addition, synthetic Hockey Turf at Bannu and Gojra have already been laid.
The government is also trying to promote culture of Merit in all spheres, of life including sports so as to induct really good players in national teams who could regain the past glory particularly in Hockey.
