Who Will Stand up and Take the Blame?
By Tarek Fatah, Canada
As I write, a bloodbath is about to take place. A massacre of ill-advised Pakistanis who were led to believe by their madrassah mullahs that they were to fight a Jihad against the kuffar. Now these young men wait their final hour, not at the hands of the so-called infidels, but at the hands of fellow Muslims.
As the defecting Taliban and the Northern Alliance embrace each other as fellow Afghans, these young Pakistanis will face massacres and probably die like their compatriots in Mazaar-e-Sharif where the retreating Taliban didn’t even inform their ‘guests’ that they were abandoning them to Dostum’s butchers.
Who will stand up and take the blame? The madrassah walas who whipped up religious frenzy and sent our youth to their deaths? Or Osama bin Laden and the Taliban who called for the jihad and then beat a rat’s retreat to embrace their Afghan foes for a few bags of dollars and bear-hug. Or do these Pakistanis deserve their fate for the atrocities they committed against the Afghan population?
A story by The Guardian (Nov. 24) talks about Arabs in Konduz, but for all practical purposes, the gun fodder will be Pakistanis. Read and reflect.
