The Taliban are gone. The party is over. They were bound to meet this fate. As a eulogy, let us not forget who they really were. When Pakistan had a military dictator named Ziaul Haq, “The Shaheed Sadar” who desperately needed some zealots to combat the forces of democracy, he started his love affair with the clerics.
And do we remember the Taliban of East Pakistan? In 1967, it was Yahya Khan at the helm courting AlBadr and AlShams. By a strange accident of fate, only this time the Pakistan Army chose not to side with the clerics. Thank you General Musharraf for making this wise decision.
