Humanitarian Aid to Afghanistan

By Renee Austin, San Diego, CA

Whether or not one supports the use of military force in Afghanistan, I hope that most people can see that at this point in time a pause in the bombing to let humanitarian aid through is both morally and politically prudent. Any setbacks the military feels this might cause will be more than offset by the goodwill resulting both amongst the Afghan people and Muslim nations around the world. Even as little as a week’s ceasefire would be useful. Following that, establishing safe corridors for aid to continue to get through should be pursued. Many of my friends and neighbors, both those who support military action and those that do not, agree with this strategy.
