Playing Host to Rescue Workers
By E. Edwin du Pont, New Zealand
My wife and I have learned from friends in New Zealand of a project of which all Americans should be aware. More than 150 New Zealand families, part of a rapidly growing group, have banded together and have pledged to be hosts to rescue workers who participated in the September 11 rescue efforts. The invitees and their families would be guests in the homes of the participating New Zealand families, including private rooms and meals. Air transportation may or may not be included, depending on the success of the organizers’ current activities in New Zealand. My wife and I think this is a wonderful expression of recognition, compassion and generosity on the part of the people of New Zealand. Truly, we are not alone, in so many ways.
