Well Done, Pakistan

I congratulate the Pakistan cricket team on winning the Khaleej Times Trophy 2001 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium by defeating Sri Lanka in the Grand Final with a solid margin of five wickets on Sunday, November 4, 2001. Waqar Younis led the team from the front with distinction by picking up the coveted man of the match award in the final. Incidentally, it was the first major international tournament at a neutral venue like Sharjah that the team won under his captaincy.

In a nutshell, it was an excellent effort by all members of the team, including the junior as well as the senior players. Mudassir Nazar, the newly appointed team coach, did very well and used his experience, exposure and knowledge of the game along with his associate and ex-test star Sikander Bakht, to revive the confidence of the team to make it a fighting and victorious combination.

With the confidence of the whole team sky rocketing after this win, I hope that with some hard work and dedication, it could bring more glory and victories for the nation in the up-coming matches during the 2001-2002 season.

Well done, Pakistan. Keep it up and hang on tough.
