Progress requires ability to view issues from multiple angles. Regretfully, lack of this ability may obstruct a people from reaching their full potential. Mushahid Hussain's comments (America' s Talibanization? December 7) reflect precisely this failing.
The draconian laws Mushahid is referring to are in response to the terror that is being waged in the name of Islam. Had Islamic countries been democratic, multi-cultural, and secular there wouldn't have been the war and its consequences, including the Sept. 11 attacks. After all, shared values help build bridges of understanding.
Most Muslim countries are dictatorial and provide few opportunities to their citizens. This is particularly true of Pakistan which is hardly the country that the Quaid had envisioned.
