Aga Khan and Aligarh

I enjoyed reading the commentary by Prof.Sharif al Mujahid “Aga Khan and Aligarh” in your issue of November 23, 2001.
The world knows the story of Aligarh and I am happy to add that Prince Karim Aga Khan, grandson of Aga Khan III (Sir Aga Sultan Mohammad Shah), is following in the footsteps of his illustrious grandfather by building universities similar to Aligarh, which are meant to serve as “power houses of Muslim thought and culture and learning, in full accord with the Islamic tradition and teaching”. Islam once led the world in science, and Insah Allah if our Muslim brothers and sisters jointly work hard towards achieving intellectual excellence, one day in the not too distant future Islam will catch up with the West and lead the world once again and match the achievements of the “Golden Age of Islamic Science “ in the 9th-13th Centuries.
