Blasphemy Law

Syed S. Hasnain, M.D., Porterville, CA

I was reading a news about a person being punished to death for claiming to be the prophet of God. I was amazed to read this news. We proudly call ourselves Muslims, but our actions are un-Islamic. The Blasphemy Law is un-Islamic and it is against the teachings of Islam. Not only are we being ridiculed in this world, but will face the wrath of Allah on the Day of Judgment. The Holy Quran has never mentioned nor has given us any authority that we prosecute such people and put them to death. Prophet Mohammad used to pray for people who used to throw stones at him and make slanderous remarks. He never asked that they should be put to death. Throughout history, people have been making similar claims in every religion. Many of them are mentally ill and have an abnormal brain chemistry. Only Allah has the authority to punish such people either in this world or on the Day of Judgment. All we can do is to take these people to a psychiatrist for treatment. The Holy Quran has repeatedly mentioned that Allah is forgiving and only He knows better. The Blasphemy Law is against the teachings of Islam.
