Hijab & Recitation of the Quran By Naila Javaid, Rowland Heights, CA
Every year there is an award ceremony in honor of those Muslims who have reached a milestone in their life and have an outstanding achievement to their credit. One such function was held recently - on Saturday, October 21. Before the “introduction” and the “concluding” speeches, there was a little girl, Sarrah Shahawy, who recited the Quran. I may be only twelve years old, but I do have some knowledge of Islam. . The Quran is God’s message so I know that this girl should not have been there in the first place. It is for a man to recite the Quran, especially in a gathering comprising men and women. Secondly, Allah has asked women to wear hijab, especially while reciting the Quran. And yet there was this girl reciting the Quran without a scarf or any piece of cloth on her head. Please do not let this happen next year. This is my request to Mr. Maher Hathout and Mr. Mohammad Mahboob Akhter.
