A Decision to be Supported Dr. Ibrahim Mulla, Lake Mary, FL
By releasing Nawaz Sharif, Gen. Musharraf has averted the threat of a civil war in Pakistan. By joining the Democratic Alliance, which also included the Pakistan Peoples Party, the Pakistan Muslim League had embarked upon a dangerous course of confrontation with the Military Regime, especially when the Alliance had decided to stage an all out strike and civil disobedience after Ramadan. The stage was set for total chaos, disruption of law and order, and anarchy. With Nawaz Sharif out of the picture and the Muslim League split into two factions, any agitation launched would be devoid of the desired thrust and momentum. Patriotic Pakistanis at this juncture should back the Military Regime and make it clear to the politicians that they do not enjoy their support or trust. Time and again the politicians have let us down. We will now allow only the honest, sincere and patriotic people to run the country, those who have passed through a stringent screening process. As for Benazir Bhutto, she should not think of ever setting foot on the soil of Pakistan again unless she returns the billions that she looted during her two tenures as Prime Minister.
