Release of Nawaz Sharif

By S. Khan, via e-mail Some people (including myself) are cursing General Musharraf for letting Nawaz Sharif go.

But may I serve a note of warning. When Murtaza Bhutto was killed in broad daylight, I unhesitatingly said,” Benazir’s days are numbered” (She was the prime minister of Pakistan at that time).

I can tell you now that at any time you will hear another announcement in Pakistan about General Musharraf’s exit from the scene. He will either be overthrown, or resign, or go into exile.

It is true that General Musharraf has nothing to do with the latest drama featuring Nawaz Sharif. It is the big-province lobby and the American ally Saudi Arabia who brokered the deal. No matter who they are, they have tried to kill two birds with one stone. On the one hand they have rescued their buddy Nawaz Sharif and on the other they have found a pretext to get rid of General Musharraf . They have the excuse to tell the world that “we are getting rid of General Musharraf because he let Nawaz Sharif go”. The General’s public image has suffered a grievous blow and when he goes unceremoniously no one will utter a word of sympathy for him.

And what an exile? The plane of the King of Saudi Arabia flew the Sharif family out of Pakistan. Indeed the entire Saudi government appears to have been engaged in bailing him out, a culprit who tried to kill the army chief and 200 innocent passengers. Sharif has been allowed to live freely in Switzerland, France, England or America.

I wish, every single culprit of the world has this kind of exile and luck.

If Nawaz Sharif can be pardoned by the President, why not every single mujrim in Pakistan?

The Nawaz-Parvez deal proves once again that money is the real power in Pakistan. In today’s world you can purchase anything. Nawaz Sharifpurchased his freedom.

The government’s announcement that Nawaz Sharif has been pardoned and exiled has again proved that in Pakistan Punjab is ‘supreme’. This also distinguishes between a Sindhi Prime Minister (ZA Bhutto) and Punjabi Prime Minister (Nawaz)!
