Karachi bridges could not bear heavy load: Report

KARACHI: This has been told in a report that there are 57 bridges in the city of Karachi but some of them are not capable of bearing additional load.

Experts said that all bridges of the city are not capable of bearing the load of many trucks and trawlers at the same time.

EDO of the City District Government Karachi, Nisar Ahmed Sario said that the bridges constructed before 1995 are not capable of bearing additional load.

An engineer of KPT said that the Jinnah Bridge has a life of 50 years but the heavy trawlers’ parking at the bridge is not only damaging the bridge but also reducing its life.

Engineers relating to construction industry said that the substandard steel, cement, crush and weight bearing pads have been used in the recently constructed bridges.

In the past also, a part of the Shershah bridge already collapsed but it was repaired through steel and rubber.
