Amendments for provincial autonomy within
a year, says Saifullah
ISLAMABAD:
Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Salim Saifullah
has said that the constitution will be amended to settle the provincial
autonomy issue before September 2007.
Talking in Geo News programme “Parliament Cafeteria”
Salim Saifullah said that the government was waiting for the report
of Balochistan parliamentary committee headed by Senator Wasim Sajjad.
The government, said Saifullah, would move a bill in
parliament on the issue of provincial autonomy after developing consensus
among all the political parties.
Mian Raza Rabbani, leader of the opposition in senate,
talking in the programme called the government to submit the Waziristan
deal in the parliament. He said the opposition parties have reservations
on the Balochistan committee led by Senator Wasim Sajjad.
Awami National Party chief Senator Ilyas Bilour said:
“In past talking about provincial autonomy was a taboo and any
political party on raising the autonomy issue was dubbed as traitor,
now the government itself moving to resolve the issue”.
The committee’s report on provincial autonomy
should be presented before the parliament quickly, he demanded.
