Govt encouraging
corporate agriculture farming: Aziz
ISLAMABAD
: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that government is encouraging
corporate agriculture farming to increase rural growth and development
as it has proved to be an affective method to raise the competitiveness,
production and productivity of agricultural sector all over the world
The Prime Minister was chairing a high level meeting
at the PM's House to review progress on the implementation status
of Corporate Agriculture Farming Package.
The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Punjab Ch.
Pervez Ellahi, Chief Minister Sind Dr. Arab Ghulam Rahim, Chief Minister
NWFP Mr. Akram Khan Durrani, Chief Minister Balochistan Mr. Jam Muhammad
Yousuf, Federal Minister for Food & Agriculture Mr. Sikandar Hayat
Khan Bosan, Federal Minister for Industries & Production Mr. Jehangir
Khan Tareen, Federal Minister for Privatization & Investment Mr.
Zahid Hamid, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Commander (Retd)
Khalil-ur-Rehman, Minister of State for Food & Agriculture Mr.
Muhammad Ali Malkani and seniors officials.
The Prime Minister said agriculture sector is the backbone
of our economy, and the government has adopted a holistic approach
to improve agricultural productivity, introduce value addition and
augment income of the farmers. Corporate farming will go a long way
in achieving these objectives. In addition more jobs and economic
opportunities will be created in the rural areas.
The Prime Minister said government will remove all bottlenecks
in the way of promotion of corporate farming . The Board of Investment
should include corporate agriculture farming among their priority
areas and facilitate businessmen desiring to invest in the corporate
farming.
The Prime Minister also reviewed the sugar policy.
He said government is keeping a vigilant check on the sugar pricing,
as it is one of the essential commodities impacting common man.
