Australian Parliamentary delegation meets
Chairman Senate
Islamabad, Sept 27 : Australian Parliamentary delegation
led by Mr. Peter Lindsay, Member, House of Representatives called
here on Chairman Senate, Mr. Mohammedmian Soomro and discussed matter
of mutual interests and promotion of bilateral and parliamentary cooperation
between the two countries.
Chairman Senate said that Pakistan and Australia enjoy
very close relations. He expressed the hope that the visit of Australian
Parliamentary delegation would enhance parliamentary interaction between
the two counties. He also emphasized the need of more exchanges of
businessmen and students to promote mutual understanding between the
peoples.
Chairman Senate also briefed the visiting Australian
delegation about Pakistan’s Parliamentary system, women’s
participation in socio-economic development, devolution plan, local
government system and Pakistan’s role in the war against terrorism.
He said that local government system is being strong, consolidated
and women were taking active part in the political process of the
country.
The leader of the Australian Parliamentary delegation
delivered a letter from the President of Australian Senate inviting
Chairman Senate, Mr. Mohammedmian Soomro to visit Australia as a head
of the Parliamentary delegation.
Later, Chairman Senate hosted lunch for the visiting
delegation. The dinner was attended by a number of Federal Minister’s,
Parliamentarians, High Commissioner of Australia and senior officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Senate appreciated the initiatives
of the exchanges of delegations between the two countries.
The leader of Australian delegation referred to Pak-Australia
friendly relations said that Australia will remain great friends of
Pakistan and the relations between the two countries will further
promote in the various fields.
Earlier, the outgoing Ambassador of Kingdom of Morocco,
Mr. Ahmed EI Rahid also paid a courtesy call on the Chairman Senate
at his Chamber. The Chairman Senate lauded the contribution of the
Ambassador in the promotion of bilateral relations and parliamentary,
trade and economic cooperation between the two counties.
The outgoing Ambassador thanked the government
and people of Pakistan for extending full cooperation in the performance
of his diplomatic assignment.
