Protest ends in Hyderabad jail
HYDERABAD: The situation has been brought under control at the Hyderabad Central Jail where angry prisoners protested for hours against their alleged mistreatment by the jail authorities. Sources said that the protesting prisoners have got back to the barracks after the administration agreed to fulfill their demands. They said the demands include regular production of inmates before the courts, serving them with proper food, allowing their meetings with relatives, and offering remissions on good conduct. Before an understanding was reached, the jail authorities resorted to aerial firing and shelling. Heavy police force was also called out to the central jail to prevent the situation from worsening. Prionsers alleged that their protest started when some of the inmates were given smelly food. Jail authorities, on the other hand, claimed that the prisoners protested on being searched for banned articles. However, police high-ups negotiated with the protesters via cell phone and managed to bring them back to the barracks.
