Musharraf to take oath as civilian president early next week: AG
ISLAMABAD: President General Pervez Musharraf will take oath as civilian
president early next week, Attorney General (AG) Malik Muhammad Qayyum
told reporters after the Supreme Court (SC) dismissed another petition
against Musharraf’s eligibility to contest an October 6 presidential
election, on Thursday. Qayyum said Musharraf was waiting for the SC
to issue a written version of its verdict so he could decide on his
oath as civilian president. He said the court would release a short
order today (Friday), which would be sent to the Election Commission
(EC) for the issuance of a notification of presidential elections’
result. The notification will then be forwarded to the federal government
for approval. “According to my assessment, Musharraf will take
oath as civilian president early next week,” he added. staff
