All resources to be provided to Pak Army: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Wednesday said the government would provide all necessary resources to enable Pakistan Army to accomplish its mission of defending country's sovereignty. The Prime Minister visited General Headquarters for the first time after assuming the responsibilities as PM. On the occasion, he discussed defence related matters with Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani. Accompanied by Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar, the Prime Minister was given detailed briefing on army's organization and its capabilities relating defence preparedness against external and internal threats. The briefing also included a strategic overview of the operational environment including full spectrum of security threats, says a press release issued by Inter Services Public Relations. Prime Minister lauded Pakistan Army's role in the defence of the country, besides rendering support to civil administration in relief and rehabilitation efforts during natural calamities. He said Pakistan would continue to strengthen minimum credible deterrence for safeguarding its territorial integrity, and ensuring peace and stability in the region. Earlier on arrival at the General Headquarters, the Prime Minister was presented a guard of honour. He reviewed the parade and took salute from the smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Army. The Prime Minister was also introduced to Principal Staff Officers serving at GHQ.
