MQM gears up to reorganise in Punjab

By Hasan Ali

LAHORE: The MQM has once again started reorganising itself in Punjab after getting the nod from its chief Altaf Hussain to build the party’s network across the province. Party sources told Daily Times on Sunday that the MQM had stopped organising itself in Punjab following the general elections, as it was waiting for its leadership to decide on whether to sit in the opposition or to join the government. They said Altaf had asked the party’s Punjab Organising Committee to start organising the MQM in Punjab, following the consensus between him and the PPP. A senior MQM official, who requested anonymity, said that Altaf had also asked POC members to review their performance and get rid of those who blocked party’s matters. “Altaf has also asked the co-ordination committee to reshuffle the POC and district committees, and to organise the party at union council and sector level,” the official said. MQM Punjab Information Secretary Ansar Botter said that he had visited southern Punjab several times in this regard.
