Boucher didn’t discuss judges’ issue with Zardari, Nawaz

ISLAMABAD: United States Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher’s separate meetings with PPP Co-chairman Asif Zardari and PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif in London had nothing to do with restoration of the sacked judges in Pakistan, the US Embassy said on Sunday. “These meetings were part of Boucher’s regular interactions with a wide range of Pakistani political leaders,” US Embassy spokeswoman Elizabeth Colton said in a statement. “The restoration of judges is Pakistan’s issue to solve. It is not for the US to prescribe solutions.” She said the US was interested in a peaceful transition towards democracy in Pakistan. “Our interest is in supporting Pakistan’s democratic transition and continuing our common struggle against the Taliban and Al Qaeda,” she said. Colton said Boucher had stopped over in London to consult with his UK Foreign Office counterparts while en-route from Bangladesh to Washington. staff report
