Sherry seeks long-term US-Pakistan relationship
ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Sherry Rehman has called upon the United States to remain engaged with Pakistan on a long-term basis, a press release said on Monday. She expressed these views while talking to a visiting US delegation comprising former deputy assistant secretary of state John Gastright, partner of Armitage International Kara Bue and Heritage Foundation Senior Research Fellow Lisa Curtis. During the meeting, Sherry urged that the co-operation between the two countries should be multi-faceted. The success of moderate forces in the February 18 elections shows that the majority of Pakistani people are against terrorism, she said. Sherry said the government was reaching out to the locals of the Tribal Areas, but that there would be no talks with terrorists. She added that the government was focusing on the development of the Tribal Areas to end the feeling of deprivation and alienation among the people. The US delegation congratulated Sherry on her ministerial assignment. app
