PM announces 100,000 tons wheat supply to Balochistan
QUETTA: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Friday announced measures to ensure smooth supply of wheat to Balochistan, with PASSCO directed to immediately arrange 100,000 tones of the grain for the province. The Prime Minister also said that the government would use all available resources to trace the missing persons in Balochistan. In his first interaction with the Balochistan cabinet, the Prime Minister said the government was fully aware to the problems; the province was facing in movement and transportation of wheat. "Ministry of Food and Agriculture has already set up a Task Force in this regard," he said, adding that Balochistan has 15 days of wheat stock to meet provincial needs. "The PASSCO (Pakistan Agriculture Storage and Supply Corporation) has been directed to immediately provide 100,000 tones wheat for the province." For further boosting supplies, Prime Minister Gilani said Punjab will provide 50,000 tones of wheat to Balochistan and will purchase another 300,000 tones for the province. Balochistan will also have 200,000 tones from the wheat being imported by the government for stock and domestic requirements. Prime minister Gilani has ordered both the provincial and federal government to withdraw all cases against Baluchistan National Party President, Sardar Akhter Mengal. Gilani said the All Parties Conference will be convened soon to resolve the issues of Balochistan. He said the government is working on a policy to bring the province into the main stream and the APC was a step to achieve political reconciliation at a national level. Gillani also said the missing persons cases would be addressed while development projects for the people of Balochistan would be taken with their consultation.
