Presidency preparing counter-strategy
LAHORE: The Presidency has evolved a strategy to block the restoration of the sacked judiciary through a stay order if the government attempts to restore the judges through an executive order. Channel-5 quoted sources as saying that a committee headed by Attorney General Malik Qayyum had been constituted in this regard. It said that the committee had already drafted a petition to get a stay order against any executive order intended to restore the sacked judges. Separately, Geo News reported that the PML-Q had set up a committee comprising Wasim Sajjad, SM Zafar, Anwar Bhindar and Dr Khalid Ranjha to table a constitutional package parallel to that of the ruling coalition. The committee has been tasked with preparing a new constitutional package after reviewing the judges’ restoration and the amendments in the Constitution, the channel added. daily times monitor
