No country should pass comments on Pakistan’s internal affairs: FO

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday said that no other country should pass comments on its internal affairs.

Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam termed the Emma Nicholson report on Kashmir imbalanced, saying the European Parliament has no mandate to nullify the United Nations resolutions on the Kashmir dispute.

She told the weekly media briefing that the report had numerous inaccuracies and was also rejected by Kashmiri leadership.

The spokesperson rejected a suggestion by a questioner that the adoption of Nicholson's report by the European Parliament reflected a foreign policy weakness.

She said for Pakistan the views of Kashmir, is matter more than what the individuals from Europe say.

When asked about response on Iran's fencing of its border with Pakistan, Ms Aslam said, "Iran is building fence inside its territory, and we are not going to raise any objection."

She said both Pakistan and Iran were keen to facilitate travel between the two countries through designated points at the borders.

Ms Aslam told the briefing that there was no Indian prisoner of war (PoW) in Pakistani jails. She said on the request of Indian families, Pakistan's Interior Ministry would facilitate their visit to 10 selected jails in the country from June one.

She said the families had been allowed to undertake visit on humanitarian grounds and to satisfy them that there was no Indian PoW in Pakistani jails.

Ms Aslam said Pakistan had emphasized release of Pakistani civilian prisoners in Indian jails and urged early activation of the working of committee of retired judges set up in this regard.

On a letter written by European Union's president to President Pervez Musharraf on the issue of Chief Justice, the spokesperson said, "This is a domestic issue and we don't expect other countries to comment on it."

On Pak-US strategic dialogue, the spokesperson said no dates had been finalized for the second round, adding that the delay was not from Pakistan's side.

The spokesperson said the UN was investigating the reported allegations of involvement of peacekeepers stationed in Congo during 2005 in some illegal practice.

Commenting on India's refusal to give visas to Kashmiri leaders for Pagwash Conference, Ms Aslam said Pakistan encouraged interaction between Kashmiris and Indian government for a better outcome regarding the Kashmir problem.

Ms Aslam said Pakistan expected positive outcome from the meetings concerning the Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project.
