Real GDP grows by 7.02 percent in FY 2006-07: PM

ISLAMABAD: The country's real GDP (Gross Domestic Product) grew by 7.02 percent in 2006-07 as against 6.61% in 2005-06 and slightly up against the target of 7% set for the current fiscal year.

This year's growth has been supported by 5 percent growth in agriculture sector, with LSM growing by 8.8%and Services sector by 8%, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz told newsmen while unveiling the growth numbers here at the PM House on Monday.

The growth numbers are based on the National Accounts Committee, which met here today with Secretary Statistics Division in chair, and approved the national accounts for the year 2006-07, the Prime Minister said.

He also announced that real GDP growth for2004-05 has been finalized and the final estimates suggest that the economy grew by 9 percent in 2004-05as against the revised estimates of 8.6 percent.

The Prime Minister said Large Scale Manufacturing has registered a growth of 8.8 percent in 2006-07 as against the revised estimate of 10.7 percent last year, with services sector growing by 8 percent.

The total size of economy in 2006-07 stood at $146.3 billion, he said and added per capita income in2006-07 has reached $ 925 as against $ 833 last year.
