No can do, says Arbab
LAHORE: Sindh Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim said
on Friday it was almost impossible to make Karachi a weapons-free
city, Geo television reported. Addressing a press conference in Karachi,
Rahim said the government would have to launch a massive operation
against illegal weapons. He said the people of Karachi were against
giving ethnic colour to the May 12 violence.
Staff Report adds: Rahim reiterated his stance that
instituting an inquiry into the May 12 incidents was not necessary
as it would not be in the interest of the city. “The law and
order situation would get worse of we instituted an inquiry,”
he said, adding that no party would be ready to accept its mistake
and would try to make it a political issue. Rahim said that the government
would consider conducting an inquiry but it would not be fruitful.
“Either all (the political parties) were involved in the incidents
or none of them,” he added.
