Uzbek President arrives on three-day
visit
ISLAMABAD:
President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov was accorded a warm welcome
when he arrived here Tuesday on three-day official visit on the invitation
of President Pervez Musharraf.
He was received at the airport by Foreign Minister,
Khurshid M. Kasuri, Minister for Law, Wasi Zafar and Minister for
Water and Power, Liaquat Ali Jatoi. A 21-gun salute boomed out as
he stepped out of his special plane.
A contingent of PAF presented a salute while a child
clad in traditional dress presented bouquet to the Uzbek leader. Red
carpet was rolled out to accord warm welcome to the distinguish guest.
The Uzbek President was accompanied by Ministers for
Foreign Affairs, Justice, Finance and Foreign Trade along with head
of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan and senior officials.
The Uzbek leader will hold formal talks with President Pervez Musharraf
and attend a banquet in his honour. The two leaders will witness signing
of agreements to intensify cooperation in trade and investment, agriculture
and consular matters.
President Karimov will also have a meeting with Prime
Minister Shaukat Aziz who will host a luncheon in his honour. Speaker
National Assembly and Minister for Water and Power will also call
on the Uzbek President.
Pakistan and Uzbekistan enjoy close brotherly
relations, based on strong commonalities of history, faith and culture
and share perceptions on major international and regional issues.
