Romanian Senate President calls on Soomro
BUCHAREST : Senator Nicolae Vacaroiu, the President
fo Romanian Senate called on the Senate Chairman Mohammadmian Soomro
in Bucharest and discussed the possibilities of promoting bilateral
ties.
Welcoming the delegation, the Romanian Senate chief
recalled that he visited Pakistan as Prime Minister of Romania in
1994. The President of Romanian Senate stated that the next joint
governmental commission will be held in Islamabad this year and hoped
that it shall enhance the volume of bilateral trade.
The President assured that the new changes in Romanian
foreign policy due to recently signed accession treaty in European
Union and as being a member of NATO shall not infringe the relations
with Pakistan.
Rather, it will create more opportunities for Pakistan
to do business with Romania, added the Romanian Senate president.
The Senate Chairman was awarded a shield by the Senate President,
marking the 140 years of Romania Senate Foundation.
Mohammadmian Soomro, Chairman Senate said that Pakistan
intends to increase trade with Romania in the fields of oil, fertilizer,
meat processing units food and agriculture items and that it looks
forward to establishing joint ventures in textile, tractors and fishing
boats industry.
The Pakistan Senate delegation also held high-level
talks with Minister for Economy and Commerce, Codrut Loan Seres, the
Speaker of Chamber of Deputies, Adrian Natase Deputy Prime Minister
Mr Gorga Copus and Foreign Minister Mihai Razvan.
The issues which came under discussions included joint
ventures in Romania in gas sector which shall be privatized next year,
exploring bilateral trade in oil and mining sectors and relaxation
of business visas for Pakistanis interested in visiting Romania.
Foreign Minister Mihai Razvan expressed complete satisfaction
on the nature of bilateral relations between the two countries and
stated that Romania has capacity and potential to further improve
and strengthen bilateral relations.
The Vice President of Romanian Senate, George Sabin
Cutas and Me Emil Ghitulescu, former Romanian Ambassador to Pakistan
were also present.
