Warid Telecom signs five agreements
ISLAMABAD, May 12 : Warid Telecom, Pakistan's premier
upcoming cellular operators signed five agreements with Nokia, Chimera,
Huawei Technologies Pakistan, Ericsson and Frontier Works Organisation
here on Thursday.
Under the agreement, Nokia will supply mobile devices
to Warid for consumers use in Pakistan. Chimera will provide Warid
with after sales services.
Huawei Technologies will supply, install and commission
a state of the art SDH/DWDM network for Wateen Telecom's nation-wide
optical transmission network.
Ericsson will provide a complete turnkey GSM/GPRS solution
comprising the supply of core and radio network equipment as well
as a comprehensive range of telecom service.
The agreement with Ericsson for the expansion of its
Phase I GSM/GPRS network under a Managed Services contact. This will
take Warid Telecom's network into more cities and enable the network
to support 3.5 million subscribers. Phase I of Warid Telecom's network
is capable of supporting 1.5 million subscribers covering 28 major
cities.
The Frontier Works Organization will provide local expertise
in Pakistan. It will roll-out 5000 kilometers of Optic Fiber Cable
nation-wide.
Chairman, WARID Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan witnessed
the signing ceremony.
