‘Murree Declaration a reflection of public sentiments’

LAHORE: Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan said that the Murree Declaration was “a reflection of public sentiments” Addressing the All Pakistan Lawyers’ Convention on Saturday he warned all those wanting to go against it that lawyers all over the country would stand united against them. He also urged the incumbent judges of the superior judiciary to avoid controversies. Ahsan said that only an independent and strong judiciary could protect the rights of parliamentarians. He said that the lawyers would continue their protests during the 30 days given to the parliament to reinstate the sacked judges. He added that a call for a shutter-down strike would also be given if needed. He congratulated the lawyers for the success of the Black Flag Week and thanked the civil society, political parties and traders for their support. Among the other speakers at the convention were Ali Ahmed Kurd, Munir A Malik, Hamid Khan and Rasheed A Rizvi. staff report
