‘PML-Q will play constructive role as opposition’

Staff Report

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) Punjab President Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said on Friday that his party would play a constructive role as the opposition in the next government. “The PML-Q will do issue-based politics, unlike past oppositions, which only enjoyed perks, raised slogans, thumped desks, and staged walkouts from assemblies on non-issues,” Elahi told PML-Q members-elect for the Punjab Assembly at his residence. PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujat Hussain was also present. The PML-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) agreed to form a coalition government in the Punjab after the two parties secured the most votes in the February 18 polls. Elahi said the incoming rulers had done nothing for the people in their previous governments. He urged the PML-Q MPAs-elect to actively participate in assembly proceedings. Shujaat Hussain said the PML-Q got more votes than any other party in the elections. He said the PML-Q, unlike the PML-N, had representation in all four provinces. “The PML-N is famous in Punjab only,” he added. He also urged his party legislators to attend assembly proceedings and highlight problems faced by the people.
