Zardari showing political maturity, says Shujaa
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said on Wednesday that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari was inching towards political maturity whereas the “adamant attitude” of former premier Nawaz Sharif could pose a threat to democracy. He told reporters at his residence that Nawaz was doing politics of rigidity “just to satisfy his ego, which is against democratic norms”. He said the PML-Q would field its candidates for the speaker and deputy speaker in the National Assembly whereas a decision to nominate its premiership candidate would be taken after seeing the nominee of the winning parties. He said, “The new assembly could only complete its term if ... [it maintains] good working relationship with the president,” he said. The PPP had “undoubtedly” gained the mandate of the people whereas Nawaz had bagged votes due to “other reasons”, Shujaat said.
