Pakistan protests death of its national in India
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Office on Wednesday condemned the “mysterious” death of its national in custody of Indian security officials. “We condemn the death of Khalid Mehmood in the strongest terms,” Foreign Office spokesman Muhammad Sadiq said during a weekly briefing. “We approached the Indian authorities and sought a detailed report from them on reasons for the arrest and circumstances of his death,” he said. He said the dialogue process with India would not be affected by the death. The spokesman said Foreign Minister Inamul Haque would lead the Pakistani delegation to the two-day 11th OIC summit in Dakar, Senegal, beginning today (Thursday). He said 23 of the 36 Pakistanis held in Iran had reached Pakistan and Pakistan had conveyed the names of the remaining 13 to the Iranian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday. Sadiq said Turkish President Abdullah Gul called President Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday night. They discussed the elections and condemned the suicide attacks in Lahore, he said.
