Constitutional experts voice concerns over delayed NA session
ISLAMABAD: The constitutional and legal experts voiced concerns over the delay in calling a session of newly elected assembly and demanded to call it at the earliest. Renowned legal experts said delaying the National Assembly session is an insult to people’s mandate, adding after the completion of electoral college, the NA session should be called sooner than later. According to constitutional experts, there is no clause included in the constitution in this connection; however, it is incumbent upon the president to call NA session under Article-54. According to some other legal experts, this depends on the political parties to come up with complete consensus on names for offices including speakership and premiership, so that assembly session could be called. Justice (rtd) Wajihud Din believes that there should not be a gap spanning more than 120 days between two sessions of the assembly, according to which, the NA session should now be called prior to March 15.
