KESC has to pay in line with NEPRA tariff: PEPCO

KARACHI: Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) MD Munawwar Baseer has said that his company demands settlement of outstanding dues with KESC according to the tariff that NEPRA had finalised. It seems as if the utility is not willing to clear the dues and expects a free supply from PEPCO but this will not happen, he told Aaj Kal over the phone Thursday. “How can PEPCO deliver power at a cheaper rate while the same thing was bought at Rs 5.5 per unit?” KESC used to pay PEPCO up to Rs 60 million on a monthly basis but after December 18, 2007, it failed to make any payment. PEPCO has waited for two and a half months but when KESC declined to pay the money, the power supply was disconnected, he argued. Presently, PEPCO has decided to resume the supply of 100 MWs instead of 800 MWs, which could only be restored when KESC clears the Rs 3 billion dues. If KESC intends to buy electricity from HUBCO, PEPCO would not hesitate issuing a No Objection Certificate (NOC) but a delay in payment would not be tolerated. aaj kal report
