PPP denounces withholding of medical aid to Mengal

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Thursday condemned the denial of medical treatment to Baloch nationalist leader Sardar Akhtar Mengal. PPP Information Secretary Sherry Rehman said in a statement that the way Mengal had been detained and treated since 2006 raised “serious” questions about the government’s “disastrous” record on human rights. “The regime has missed a record number of opportunities to heal the wounds of the people of Balochistan,” she said. Rehman demanded the immediate release of Mengal, saying that there was no justification for keeping him in custody as he was suffering from cardiac problems. “The long-standing issues of the people of Balochistan can only be solved through political means. staff report
