Ups and downs in politics a routine: Musharraf

ISLAMABAD: President Pervez Musharraf said that the senate would play a role of check and balance in the coming political system. He said that ups and downs in politics are a matter of routine but the good thing is that the elections have been held in fair and transparent manner and all parties have pleasantly accepted the results. He said this while addressing the senators of the allied parties consisted of PML (Q), MQM, PML Functional, People’s Party Sherpao and NPP. The meeting was arranged at the Prime Minister House, Islamabad. Addressing on the occasion, President Musharraf said that the Muslim League has secured less seats in the elections but the PML and its allied parties have got the most votes which is the recognition of their good performance. The President said that the Pakistan Muslim League and the allied parties have a majority in the senate due to which a system of check and balance would be established. He said this is right that dictatorship is not a good thing for any country and only the democracy is the real future of Pakistan. President Musharraf said that the country’s image has been raised due to the transparent and fair elections in Pakistan. The President asked the senators to play their full parliamentary role in the upper house and carry forward the democracy through good traditions. Later, the President took tea with the senators and left after half-an-hour.
