No parliament can be powerful without free judiciary, says Aitizaz

KARACHI: The parliament can not be strengthened without free judiciary, “We want to make the parliament powerful,” Supreme Court Bar President Aitizaz Ahsan Wednesday said while addressing the Sindh High Court Bar in Karachi. “Pakistan is passing through a crisis,” and restoration of judiciary is the foremost need of the time, said the SCBA president. “No parliament in the world can be strong without freedom of judiciary in that country,” Ahsan said. Aitizaz Ahsan said the lawyers don’t want a clash with the parliament but wish to make it powerful. President Musharraf and his allies made the parliament subordinate during last five years even it was not allowed to elect the prime minister, the lawyers’ leader said. The people of Pakistan have rejected President Musharraf and he is standing at the exit gate,” said the SCBA president. Aitizaz Ahsan thanked the media for supporting the movement for restoration of judiciary.
