Government should defend Prophet’s dignity, says Nawaz
* PML-N chief condemns former govt for arresting Mufti Sarfraz
Staff Report
LAHORE: Former premier Nawaz Sharif said on Sunday that the government should make efforts to defend the dignity of the holy Prophet (PBUH). Addressing a seminar at Jamia Naeemia in Ghari Shahu, Nawaz said it was the responsibility of every Muslim to defend the dignity of the holy Prophet (PBUH). “We would work for this cause till the doomsday,” he vowed. The seminar was arranged in the memory of late Mufti Muhammad Hussain Naeemi, who spent years in the Mach jail for the cause of the holy Prophet’s (PBUH) dignity. PML-Q condemns: He condemned the erstwhile government for arresting Mufti Sarfraz Naeemi for taking out a procession for the dignity of the holy Prophet (PBUH). About the ongoing politics in the country, Nawaz said his Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) would support the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in making a coalition government in the centre, adding that the PML-N would expect the PPP to help it in making a government in Punjab. PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif would participate in a by-election and, if elected, would serve the people, he added. He said the people had rejected the PML-Q in the February 18 general elections, adding that the former ruling party’s true face was exposed in its vicious and ‘vulgar’ media campaign against the PML-N. He said the people associated President Pervez Musharraf’s name with a person who had violated the Constitution and laws of the country. “Musharraf is protecting those individuals whose election security deposits have been forfeited,” Nawaz said. Recalling President Musharraf’s address to the nation in which he “threatened the late Nawab Akbar Bugti by saying that he would not know from where bullets had hit him”, he questioned if such should be the attitude of a country’s ruler. He regretted that the people, who had been grieved in the ongoing military operation in the Tribal Areas, were attacking the Pakistan Army. He called upon the people to serve the cause of Islam with courage and fortitude.
