Settlement of Kashmir issue to change destiny
of South Asian people: PM
ISLAMABAD:
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Monday said the settlement of Kashmir
issue in line with the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiri people will
change the destiny of over one billion people of South Asia.
The Prime Minister was talking to Yaseen Malik, head
of JKLF Kashmir leader who called on him here.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan valued the sacrifices
rendered by Kashmiri people to attain their inalienable right to self-determination.
"We will continue to extend moral and political
support to the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their just struggle,"
the Prime Minister said.
Prime Minister Aziz said Pakistan was committed to the
composite dialogue process and always held the position that Kashmiris
were the main stakeholders to the dispute and must be involved in
the ongoing peace process.
The Prime Minister said a durable settlement of the
Kashmir issue was in the interest of all three parties, the Kashmiris,
Pakistan and India. He said each must demonstrate determination, commitment,
courage, flexibility and magnanimity to resolve the issue of Kashmir.
He said the ideas put forth by President General Pervez
Musharraf involved a multi-step approach and could form the basis
of meaningful dialogue on Kashmir.
He said President's proposals had come as a glimmer
of hope and held the promise of reversing the course of history. It
is encouraging to note that this new approach had found resonance
among Kashmiri leaders and had stimulated debate by all the stakeholders
as well as experts around the world.
He said Pakistan was hopeful that these efforts would
positively contribute towards evolving a just and durable settlement
in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
Yaseen Malik thanked the government and the people
of Pakistan for their consistent support to the people of Kashmir
and its diplomatic and political support for the cause of Kashmir.
