Hindu community celebrated Holi with zeal

KARACHI: Pakistan’s Hindu community like other parts of the world celebrated their festival Holi with great fervour and zeal.

The colourful festival of Holi is celebrated on Phalgun Purnima--a full moonlit night, which falls in February end or early March. Holi festival has an ancient origin and celebrates the triumph of ‘good’ over ‘evil’ forces.

Karachi also celebrated Holi festival with great enthusiasm. Men, women and children from the Hindu community worshipped at the different temples here including Shri Punch Mukhi Hanuman and Shri Ratan Das Mahadev, lit Holi bonfires at the temples and rubbed its ashes at the foreheads believing it would protect them from disease and epidemics. Thereafter busting into hilarity, they splashed colours on each other’s faces dousing all in multi-colour soon.

The participants in this Hindu festivity told that they have all the freedom to celebrate their festivals in Pakistan. They especially thanked the Pakistan government and the people for participating in the events and for providing the best facilities on this occasion.
