Benazir Bhutto features in book “Women who changed the World”

ISLAMABAD, Mar 26 : Former prime Minister and Chairperson of the Pakistan Peoples Party Benazir Bhutto features in a book entitled “Women Who Changed the World”, published by Smith Davies that lists 50 inspirational women who shaped history.

The women featured in the book are outstanding individuals, who achieved exceptional standing in the major fields of human endeavor – politics, literature, art, science, music, social reform, entertainment, sport and adventure.

Pakistani nation is proud that the list that starts from B.C includes the name of Benazir Bhutto, the only Muslim woman gracing the book and along with Mrs. Margaret Thatcher, the only two democratically elected Prime Ministers of their respective countries. Other eminent figures in the book include Joan of Arc, Elizabeth 1, Catherine the Great, Jane Austen, Queen Victoria, Florence Nightingale, Marie Curie, Mother Teresa, Madame Mao, and Diana Princess of Wales.

Benazir Bhutto has been recognized as Pakistan’s youngest and the first woman to lead a Muslim nation in modern times. A woman of courage and conviction, she strove to improve conditions for women and under privileged in Pakistan. She has been hailed as the symbol of Anti Zia movement and eulogized for her struggle against dictatorship and Martial Law.

About herself, she has been quoted as saying “ When I was growing up I thought a woman could have it all and now I find that, “yes, a woman can have it all – but she has to be prepared to pay the price”.

She further says, “I would like to be remembered for overturning a military dictatorship and heralding a world of democracy in Pakistan, for bringing in changes which could not be reversed which included an independent press and the move towards free markets – but above all I want to be remembered for what I did for women.”
